Introduction to the Feast of the Seven Sorrows
Dear faithful, within two days we will celebrate the seven sorrows of Our Lady. In a certain perspective, it may be the most beautiful and meaningful feast of Our Lady. I encourage you to prepare this celebration because no one has Our Lady in their life.
Our Lady's Presence at the Cross
Our Lady was associated, has been associated to the mystery of the cross. She was there at the foot of the cross. And when we think about that, we meditate about that, of course, we praise Her generosity, Her goodness, Her maternity in relation to our self. She was there suffering with our Lord for us, for our conversion, for the remission, the pardon of our sins.
The First Saved Soul
But if we try to penetrate more this mystery, Our Lady was aware at the foot of the cross of something else in relation to Herself. Standing there at the foot of the cross, watching our Lord, offering our Lord to the Father, She was aware that actually, the first saved soul, the first preserved soul from sin was Herself. First of all, our Lord was suffering for His Mother.
The Immaculate Conception and Our Lady's Reaction
The Immaculate Conception, the purity of Our Lady, all Her virtues, they have been conquered by our Lord on the cross. Can we imagine that? Can we imagine the soul of Our Lady realizing that Her Son was suffering for Her first? Because the gift bestowed, bestowed, bestowed on the soul of Our Lady are more precious than all the graces given to all the saints together. What was Her reaction, Her feeling? Certainly, She was speechless. Contemplating this mystery, this mystery of charity, of goodness. Because even if during Her life She always was faithful, perfectly faithful, but She couldn't merit the first fullness of grace, She couldn't merit the Immaculate Conception, that was a gift of God, paid on the cross. And of course, Her soul was full of gratitude, thankfulness, before God and before Her Son.
A Gift of God and Our Response
This... feelings, they have to be, of course, in a different situation, in a different perspective. Our feelings also. Whatever is good in our soul, if we still have the faith, if we still believe, if we still come to Mass, if we still can go to confession, and receive the Blessed Sacrament, it's not because of our goodness. It's not because we deserve this. No. It is always, and we cannot forget this, it is always a gift of God. Of course, we try to correspond. Of course. But the first move is always, necessarily, the move of God.
Our Lady as Queen of the Apostles
And... at the same time, at the foot of the cross, Our Lady had this desire, to share, to share, the treasure coming from the cross, with all the souls, with everyone. Everybody was called to watch that mystery of the cross. As she was doing. And everybody was called to take advantage of the blood shed by our Lord on the cross. Her desire has to be our desire. It's for this reason that Our Lady is called a Queen of the Apostles. Why? Because she had this desire to share with every soul, the treasures of the cross. It has to be our desire also.
Final Reflection and Prayer
We cannot never remain indifferent, watching the disaster, the disaster of so many people living far away from God. Let us ask Our Lady during this Mass, and as I said, to prepare this great feast day of the 15th, these two dispositions, thankfulness for our self, for what we received, in all humility, because we didn't deserve that. At the same time, let's ask Our Lady to dilate our heart. We want everybody, everybody, might share, might share this great treasure of the cross, of the blood of our Lord. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
This homily provides a profound reflection on the feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady and her intimate association with the mystery of the cross. Our Lady's presence at the foot of the cross is a powerful testament to her love, sacrifice, and the unique grace she received as the first saved soul through the Immaculate Conception.
As believers, we are reminded that the gifts we receive are not due to our own merit, but rather, they are gifts from God. Our Lady's desire to share the treasures of the cross with others is a call for us to do the same, especially as we approach her feast day. Let us embrace this call with gratitude and humility, striving to share the love and grace of God with all souls.
